The meal-kit delivery service industry is rapidly expanding, with new companies joining the arena all the time. Choosing which service best meets your needs can be quite a difficult task. And that is precisely why we, the Meal Kit Review, are here for!
This article will focus on two leaders in the meal kit industry – Home Chef and Green Chef!
We will share our experiences with both companies, including the types of foods they offer, their plans, the pros and cons of both companies, and pics from the meals we tasted!
Variety of Meal Plans Offered by Green Chef and Home Chef
Home Chef offers a great deal of flexibility as part of their service. You can choose from a two, four, or six-person plan. That makes Home Chef one of the only meal kits services to offer a large family plan option.
Home Chef also offers a unique Fresh & easy plan, designed for those who have little time for meal preparation and clean up but still wish to eat healthy and tasteful meals at home.
With Home Chef, There is a minimum order of two dishes per week, but there are no maximum order limits, so you can order as many meals as you need!
Green Chef is less flexible, offering four different plans for specific diets that you can choose from Keto low carb plan (that is also gluten-free), Balanced living plan, Vegetarian and plant-based plan, and carb-conscious plan.
Most Green Chef plans have two-person and four-persn subscription options, each provides three meals per week. You can’t mix menus from different plans.
Variety of Meal Options
With Home Chef, you can select from over 20 portion size dishes per week. Among those, you will find an incredible diversity, including meat, poultry, pork, fish, seafood, and vegetarian dishes.
The Home Chef meals are categorized very clearly on the online menu, with meals to cater to many diets and lifestyle needs like easy-prep and oven-ready meals, carb-conscious, vegetarian, and calorie-conscious meals.
In comparison, Green Chef offers four weekly menus for each different plan. When you subscribe, you will need to select one plan, and then you get offered 8-9 delicious meals within this plan. You can mix meals from different plans, so it is a bit restricting if you are on a regular diet.

Home Chef versus Green Chef- Style and Complexity of Dishes
We were very impressed with the dishes we cooked and tasted from both Green Chef and Home Chef.
The focus of Home Chef is providing well-known and classic dishes that include some interesting twists.
The Home Chef meals are generally effortless to cook, with many 15 minutes and oven-ready meals that can also suit as a lunch option. As a bonus, it is good to know that Home Chef makes an effort to create balanced meals that include many vegetables.
Convenience and healthy eating is a priority also for Green Chef. All their meal kits are organic and using high-quality, farm-fresh organic ingredients. Their meals are designed to be served within 30 minutes, with many ingredients pre-peeled and pre-cut.
Tasteful Recipes From the Home Chef and Green Chef Menus:
Green Chef:
- Chicken with herbed tahini and Cauliflower “tabbouleh”
- Malaysian pork patties with ginger-lime aïoli, stir-fried veggies, and cashews
- Butternut squash chili with Black beans, roasted red peppers & tortilla strips
Home Chef:
- Japanese Sirloin steak with mirin demi-glace and glazed carrots
- Chicken scallopini and mushroom gravy with roasted garlic and goat cheese potatoes
- Low country shrimp with chili lime rice bowl
Green Chef vs Home Chef: Quality of products
The quality of ingredients used by both companies is exceptional.
Home Chef uses farm-fresh seasonal products, which can also include organic options. As a company, they have partnered with a network of top producers to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality ingredients. Some of these producers include Paysan Breton Butter, Worldwide Farms for farm-fresh herbs and vegetables, and Sea to Table for seafood, which is sustainably sourced.
Green Chef is a USDA-certified organic company. That means they use only organic and sustainably sourced ingredients from a trusted network of ranchers, farmers, fishermen, and artisans.

Home Chef and Green Chef Delivery Box
The delivery boxes used by both companies have been specially designed, are individually labeled and always arrive safely, with the integrity of the ingredients intact.
We love the way the contents of the Home Chef delivery are organized. The ingredients of each meal kit are wrapped in their own individually labeled bags. There is no need to sort and match each dish’s ingredients by yourself with a Home Chef delivery as this has already been done for you.
With Green Chef, while all the ingredients are clearly labeled, you will need to sort each meal’s ingredients before packing these away.
Both companies ensure that the proteins are packed with enough ice at the bottom of the box to keep everything cool. This means you can leave the box outside of the refrigerator for several hours after delivery.
The app and website
While Green Chef does not have an app to use their service, their website has been mobile-optimized, so everything you need to manage your account can be completed quickly online. This includes registering, selecting your plan, changing your payment method, and canceling your account.
Home Chef offers both a well-organized website and app. Once again, you can manage your account easily online.
Both companies offer a support service via email, chat, or phone.
Home Chef and Green Chef Plan Terms
To use both companies’ services, you need to subscribe. There is no option for a one-off service. You will find a great deal of flexibility available with both companies to manage your account. You can pause your subscription or skip weeks if necessary.
When it comes to account cancellation, you can easily do this with Green Chef via the website. You can also cancel your account with Home Chef online, though you need to do this via the ‘My Account’ table, which is only available via their website.
Bottom line – Our Winner Is Home Chef!
Both Green Chef and Home Chef are attractive options when it comes to broadening the horizons of your home dining experiences.
Each company appeals to slightly different audiences – Home Chef is great for people who like to enjoy classic and familiar dishes with a bit of an edge but who also don’t want to spend too much time in the kitchen. Green Chef is terrific for providing options for people where organic ingredients are a priority.
Our vote in this instance would be Home Chef!
This is because of their extensive menu variety (that also supports many diets), the high-quality of their sent products, and the real great flavor of every meal we tried.
It is also notable that their meals are straightforward and fun to prepare, and they are more cost-effective when it comes to the overall weekly pricing.
