At the Meal Kit Review, we like to do in-depth comparisons of different companies to allow you to more easily decide which is the best meal kit service for you.
As the industry is constantly changing and expanding it can be very difficult to keep on top of all that is available, but that is where we come in!
The Meal Kit Review makes sure that we review all companies in the market, provide detailed comparisons and look at the best meal kit services for different requirements. Now you only need to go to one place when looking for a meal kit service company!
Today we are going to be looking at two different companies that are focussed on providing healthy meal kit options. These two companies are Green Chef and Purple Carrot.
Green Chef is one of the more established meal kit delivery companies and they have the unique distinction of being a USDA certified organic company. Purple Carrot is a relatively new company and their focus is providing plant-based options that are suitable for vegans and non-vegans alike!
Green Chef- Purple Carrot Variety of plan
Green Chef has two plans for you to choose from and they also allow you to change these plans from week to week. These two plans are:
- Two-person Plan: Three meals per week, a total of six weekly servings
- Four-person Plan: Two meals per week, a total of eight weekly servings
Purple Carrot has four different plans to choose from that are designed for two people with three meals per week so a total of six weekly servings. These plans are:
- High Protein Plan – designed to energize with protein-packed meals.
- Quick and Easy Plan – all meals in the Quick and Easy Plan can be prepared within 30 minutes or less.
- Chef’s choice Plan – this plan gives customers the option of enjoying dishes that are more sophisticated and offer a gourmet dining experience.
- TB12 Performance Plan – an additional plan which is designed for those with active lifestyles who have higher metabolic needs.

Green Chef- Purple Carrot Variety of dishes
Green Chef has a very diverse menu that not only offers options that are suitable for vegans, but for many other dietary requirements as well. Their service includes seven weekly menus which cater for different lifestyles which include paleo, vegan, keto, omnivore, carnivore, vegetarian and gluten-free. As a Green Chef customer, you need to select one specific plan from these menus, and then Green Chef provides three healthy and tasty meals as part of each plan.
The service provided by Purple Carrot is 100% plant-based, but they do emphasize that it is well suited to both vegans and to those who are not vegan but would like to increase the amount of fruit and vegetables that they eat.
As part of the TB12 Performance Plan Purple Carrot also provides three weekly dishes that are ideal for those with active lifestyles and have higher metabolic needs.
Green Chef- Purple Carrot Style and complexity of dishes
Green Chef is all about meals that are healthy, organic and easy to prepare! Convenience for them, is a priority and they are big believers in the fact that healthy food should not be difficult to prepare. All their meal kits use the highest quality organic ingredients.
Convenience is a priority for Green Chef and all their meals can be served within 30 minutes.
Purple Carrot offers a varied menu with many different styles and influences. All their options are plant-based and include recipes from America, Mexico, the Mediterranean and Italy to name but a few styles of cuisine!

Green Chef- Purple Carrot Quality of Ingredients
The ingredients used by Green Chef in their meal kits are exceptional and always of the highest standard. Green Chef has an impressive distinction of being a USDA certified organic company. To obtain this certification, they had to reliably and consistently source only the best organic ingredients. They use only organic and sustainably sourced ingredients from a trusted network of ranchers, farmers, fishermen and artisans.
We were left a little perplexed by the fact the Purple Carrot was unable to provide any information on where their ingredients come from. This was something that concerned us, especially considering that a few of our ingredients were not of the best standard and needed to be replaced by us, with store-bought items.
There is certainly room for improvement in terms of the consistency and quality of Purple Carrot ingredients.

Green Chef- Purple Carrot : The Box
The boxes used by both Green Chef and Purple Carrot to deliver your orders have been specifically designed for food delivery and the order always arrives with the ingredients intact.
Green Chef clearly labels the ingredients of each meal kit, but they are not sorted as per each dish. In unpacking your Green Chef delivery, you will need to sort the ingredients before packing and storing the meal kits away.
The contents of the Purple Carrot delivery were well organised with the ingredients of each meal kit being grouped, so no sorting is required when unpacking your delivery.
Both companies made sure to include ice or a gel-pack at the bottom of the box with the proteins to ensure that everything was maintained at the correct temperature and could be left outside for a few hours after delivery.
Green Chef- Purple Carrot : The App and Website
Both Green Chef and Purple Carrot offer attractive, well organized and easy to use websites, though we did find that the Green Chef website was a little more user-friendly. Everything that you need to do to manage your account including registration, plan and dish selection, updating payment methods and your personal details can all be done via the websites of each company.
Plan terms
Both Green Chef and Purple Carrot are subscription services. However, you will find that the services are quite flexible in that you can skip weeks whenever required and you can also cancel your account easily online.
Bottom line: Green Chef vs Purple Carrot: Who’s the winner?
The winner for us in this comparison was clearly Green Chef. Green Chef is a USDA approved company, gluten-free certified and they deliver all organic ingredients. as opposed to the Purple Carrot delivery, all the ingredients we got in the Green Chef box were superb! Overall, we also found that the taste and style of the Green Chef meals were superior to Purple Carrot, the menu offers options for many diets (vegetarian, Gluten free, Paleo and more), and their website and ordering process is slightly more user-friendly.
