Coming up with new and exciting recipes can be time-consuming and frustrating. Shopping for groceries and making a healthy meal that everyone will enjoy can be tricky. If your schedule is busy or you’re feeling unmotivated in the kitchen, a meal kit service may be the perfect option for you.
The meal kit industry is growing and with more meal kits to choose from it can be difficult to know which one is best for you and your family.
At The Meal Kit Review, we want you to enjoy your meal, not waste time trying to find the right one.
Our review takes a look at Home Chef and Gobble, so you can decide which meal kit will make every dinner easy and delicious. Let’s take a look at how they compare and which one comes out the winner.
Variety of Plan
Home Chef offers one plan, which provides a good amount of flexibility. While you must order at least two dishes per week, there are no maximum limitations to your weekly order.
You can choose a delivery for two, four, or six people and choose from five-minute meals and vegetarian options.
Gobble offers two dinner plans as well as a monthly Lunch Box plan:
- Two-person dinner plan with six meals per week (three dishes for two people)
- Four-person dinner plan with 12 meals per week (three dishes for four people)
- The Lunch Box plan includes three “grab-and-go” lunch meal recipes which can be made in under two minutes

Delivery Area
According to their official help center, Home Chef currently delivers to 98 percent of the U.S. If you want to see if Home Chef will deliver to you, simply enter your zip code and the site will tell you whether or not you can receive a shipment.
Gobble delivers to many states throughout the continental United States. The company is rapidly expanding, so the best way to see if they deliver to your area you can check on Gobble’s website.
Variety of Dishes
Each week, you can choose from 18 of Home Chef’s recipes, which include vegetarian options and 5-minute no-cook lunches. Since Home Chef doesn’t limit you to a maximum amount of meals, you can order as many or as little as you like.
You can select meals from Home Chef based on ingredients, such as steak or pork, or cuisine styles, such as Asian or Classic.
Gobble offers 24 recipes, which are divided into six categories based on meat preferences, such as chicken or seafood. There are also vegetarian choices available with Gobble.
Both meal services switch out menus every week to offer new recipes with a variety of customizable options.
Style and Complexity of Dishes
When you order from a meal kit service, not only should your food be easy to prepare, but the taste is essential. We tasted a variety of dishes from Home Chef and Gobble, and we can attest that everything we tried is flavorful and delicious.
Home Chef focuses on classic “comfort” meals and adds their own twist to encourage customers to try flavors and pairings they may not otherwise consider.
Home Chef’s dishes aren’t too complex or overwhelming for someone who likes a classic dish or has limited culinary skills. Most meals are around 30 minutes from box to table.
If you’re looking for global cuisine options, Gobble may be a better option for you. All recipes, which focus on a specific protein (such as beef or chicken) are ready to eat in around 15 minutes.
Quality of Products
Both Home Chef and Gobble provide customers with high-quality ingredients that are the same that you might expect from a top-rated restaurant.
Home Chef partners with top food suppliers for fresh herbs and produce, and their seafood is sustainably sourced. They strive to offer seasonal products, as well as some organic ingredients.
The ingredients in Gobble’s meal kits are local and farm-fresh, making them comparable to the same ingredients you would enjoy at some of the best restaurants (for a fraction of the price).

The Box
Both companies do an excellent job of sorting, labeling, and packaging each meal you receive. Home Chef and Gobble pack their meals in high-quality and attractive boxes that are clearly marked. All you need to do is unpack and store your ingredients until you’re ready to make your meal.
If you can’t unpack your box right away, there’s no need to worry because there’s an adequate amount of ice packs with each delivery to ensure that your meals remain at a safe temperature for up to a couple of hours.
The App and Website
Whether you need to skip a week, change your meal plan, or change your account, both companies have websites that are easy-to-use. Not only does Home Chef have a website, but you can also access your account and make changes to your meal plan from an app.
While Gobble doesn’t currently have an app, their mobile-optimized website allows customers to view future menus and other important information such as ingredients or nutritional facts.
Plan Terms
Need to skip a week of meal delivery? Want to change your plan? Home Chef and Gobble are flexible and make it easy to make any adjustments to your account. While you can call customer support for direct help, most of the information you need is on the website (or app if using Home Chef).
Add-On’s
Sometimes you might crave some “extras” to complete your delicious meal. Home Chef offers the add-on of smoothies (which change every week) or other options like a seasonal fruit basket.
Like Home Chef, Gobble has a variety of extras that change weekly. Whether you’re in the mood for cookie dough, non-alcoholic beverages, or even a margarita mix, Gobble has quite a few unique add-on options.
Bottom Line
There are many things we like about Home Chef and Gobble, such as their high-quality ingredients, and a large assortment of unique recipes. Gobble is best-suited for people who are interested in global cuisine or have dietary preferences based on their source of protein.
Home Chef takes classic meals that many customers are familiar with and adds a twist that enhances flavor without compromising quality.
Although our taste team enjoyed most of the dishes from each meal kit service, Home Chef gets our vote. Not only are the dishes more flavorful overall but we love that the meals are quick and easy to make, which makes it less intimidating for people with limited cooking skills.
We also appreciate the flexibility of the meal plans and that Home Chef is an affordable option whether you’re buying meals for one or a family of five.
