This was a basic but tasty and comforting meal for a cold winter’s night. It was also an absolute bargain considering the price! You really can’t go wrong with hot baked orzo pasta topped with a cheesy crust. The dish had some lovely juiciness from the sweet Italian sausage meat and this combined beautifully with the nice crispy edge from the mozzarella cheese and panko crust.

The dish was quite easy to prepare. We followed the easy recipe page that was included in the EveryPlate box, and it only took about 40 minutes. After some simple preparation, the first step was to cook the bell pepper, onions, sausage and garlic. To this, we added the tomato paste and the orzo and let it all cook together until the orzo was tender.

While the orzo was cooking, we mixed the crust. The final step was to top the orzo with the cheese-panko blend and broil it for 2 minutes until it was lightly browned – and that was it. Dinner was ready.
