Today we are looking at two companies, both of which offer a fantastic service – Green Chef VS Blue Apron! There are many differences between the two, so let’s dive in to this comparison:

Variety of plan

Both of these companies offer customers 2 different types of plans and these are as follows:

Green Chef Plans:

  • 2-person plan that provides 3 meals a week so a total of 6 servings
  • 4-person plan that provides 2 meals a week so a total of 8 servings.

Blue Apron Plans:

  • Classic Plan for 2 people with an option of 2 or 3 dishes per week
  • Family Plan for 4 people with an option of 2, 3 or 4 dishes per week.

Variety of dishes

When using the Blue Apron service you can select from 8 dishes per week with the Classic Plan, and 4 dishes per week with the Family Plan.

In comparison, Green Chef has 7 weekly menus which cater for different dietary preferences.  These include paleo, vegan, keto, omnivore, carnivore, vegetarian and gluten-free. As a Green Chef customer you need to select one plan from these menus and then you have a choice of 3 delicious meals as part of each weekly plan option.   

Style and complexity of dishes

We have to say that we have tried many meals from both Green Chef and Blue Apron and we are never disappointed.  Their meals are made from nutritious and healthy ingredients and with both companies, you are guaranteed to be receiving truly delicious meal options.

A key part of Blue Apron’s focus is providing interesting dishes, that give a comfortable sense of the familiar, but always include surprising twists to the traditional recipes. the meals take anywhere from 30-60 minutes to cook.

The Green Chef philosophy is very much about ensuring that their meals are both super healthy and convenient for their customers. All the Green Chef meals can be prepared within 30 minutes or less.

Quality of products

Both companies pride themselves on the high quality of ingredients that they use in their meal kits.  

Green Chef is a USDA certified organic company and they only use organic and sustainably sourced ingredients.  Their ingredients come from a trusted network of ranchers, farmers, fishermen and artisans.

Whilst not providing organic ingredients all the time, Blue Apron does make the promise that all of their meat products have no added hormones, vegetables are farm fresh and wherever possible, organic, and all seafood is sustainably sourced.

The Box

Both companies use boxes that have been specifically designed for meal kit delivery.  They are labelled and include sufficient ice to ensure that the ingredients remain fresh and chilled throughout the entire delivery process.  

With Green Chef, the ingredients of each dish arrive labelled, though you will need to sort the ingredients for each meal.

Blue Apron does not sort their ingredients and they are all loosely packed in the box.  You will need to allow a little time to sort through the ingredients before packing these away.

The app and website

Managing your account is really easy with both companies and you will find that you can complete everything you need to do, online.  This includes registration, subscribing to the services, selecting your plans and meals, confirming payment method and updating your personal details.

Blue Apron has an appealing and well organized website and app.  

Although Green chef does not offer an app, their website is mobile optimized for easy use.

Plan terms

Both companies require you to subscribe to use their service, but they are both very flexible in providing the option of skipping weeks if necessary or putting your account on hold. To cancel your Blue Apron account you will need to contact the customer support department of Blue Apron directly, with Green Chef you can cancel your account online.

Bottom line:

We love both of these meal kit delivery services and always enjoy their healthy and delicious meals. Blue Apron is more suitable for people who are looking for fine chef-designed dining at home, whereas Green Chef is suitable for healthy eating consumers.

However, if we had to choose one meal kit service, our vote would go to Green Chef.  This is because of the fact that all of their ingredients are organic, so you are guaranteed healthy and High-quality meals every time. They are also very convenient, with all of the dishes being very easy to cook and never taking longer than 30 minutes.
