The meal kit industry is one that is rapidly expanding with new companies joining this arena all the time. As a result, choosing which meal kit company best meets your needs can be quite a difficult task. And that is exactly why we are here!
At the Meal Kit Review we are constantly trying the services of all meal kit companies in the States and we also offer in-depth comparisons for you! This can make your choice so much easier. So, let’s get started with our next comparison. Our two companies that we will be comparing today are Green Chef and Home Chef.
Variety of plan
Home Chef offers a great deal of flexibility to those wanting to use their service. You can choose from a plan that delivers meals for two, four or six people. There is a minimum order of two dishes per week but there are no maximum order limits, so you can order as many meals as you need!
Green Chef are less flexible, offering two different types of plans that you can change on a weekly basis. They have the 2-person plan which provides 3 meals per week so a total of 6 servings. Alternatively, there is the 4-person plan which provides 2 meals per week with a total of 8 servings.
Variety of dishes
With Home Chef you can select from 15 dishes per week. These 15 dishes are made up of 12 classic dinner options plus three different ‘5-minute-no-cooking’ lunch options. You will find a very satisfactory diversity with the Home Chef menu. There options include meat, poultry, pork, fish, seafood and vegetable dishes.
In comparison, Green Chef has 7 weekly menus for different lifestyles which include paleo, vegan, keto, omnivore, carnivore, vegetarian and gluten-free. When you subscribe, you will need to select one plan from all these menus, and then Green Chef offers 3 nutritious and delicious meals as part of each weekly plan option.
Style and complexity of dishes
We were very impressed with the dishes we received from both Green Chef and Home Chef.
The focus of Home Chef is providing dishes that are more well-known and classic, but their recipes include some interesting twists. With Home Chef, it always feels like you are eating something that offers something a little different every time. Their meals are generally easy to cook and there is the bonus of knowing that Home Chef likes including lots of vegetables in their recipes.
Convenience is a priority for Green Chef and all their meals can be served within 30 minutes. All their meal kits are healthy and organic and are made using high quality organic ingredients.
Quality of products
The quality of ingredients used by both companies is exceptional.
Home Chef uses farm fresh seasonal products which can also include organic options. As a company they have partnered with a network of top producers to ensure the consistent supply of high quality ingredients. Some of these producers include Paysan Breton Butter, Worldwide Farms for farm fresh herbs and vegetables and Sea to Table for seafood which is sustainably sourced.
Green Chef is a USDA certified organic company and as a result, they use only organic and sustainably sourced ingredients from a trusted network of ranchers, farmers, fishermen and artisans.
The delivery boxes used by both companies have been specially designed, are individually labelled and always arrive safely, with the integrity of the ingredients intact.
We love the way the contents of the Home Chef delivery are organized. The ingredients of each meal kit are wrapped in their own individually labeled bags. With a Home Chef delivery there is no need to sort and match the ingredients of each dish by yourself as this has already been done for you.
With Green Chef, while all the ingredients are clearly labeled, you will need to sort the ingredients for each meal before packing these away.
Both companies ensure that the proteins are packed with enough ice at the bottom of the box to keep everything cool. This means that you can leave the box outside of the refrigerator for several hours without worrying about any of the contents.
The app and website
While Green Chef does not have an app to use their service, their website has been mobile optimized so everything that you need to do to manage your account can be completed easily online. This includes registering, selecting your plan, changing your payment method and canceling your account.
Home Chef offers both a well organised website and app. Once again you can manage your account easily online.
To use the services of both companies you do need to subscribe to their service as they are not offered as a one-off service. You will find that there is a great deal of flexibility available with both companies to manage your account. You can pause your subscription or skip weeks if necessary.
When it comes to account cancellation you can easily do this with Green Chef via the website. You can also cancel your account with Home Chef online, though you do need to do this via the ‘My Account’ table which is only available via their website.
Both Green Chef and Home Chef are attractive options when it comes to broadening the horizons of your home dining experiences. Each company obviously appeals to slightly different audiences. Home Chef is great for people who like to enjoy classic and familiar dishes with a bit of an edge but who also don’t want to spend too much time in the kitchen. Green Chef is wonderful for providing options for people where organic ingredients are a priority.
If we had to pick one company, our vote in this instance would be Home Chef. This is because the high-quality of their product and the great flavor of their meals. Also, the meals are easy to prepare and they are usually more cost-effective when it comes to overall pricing.
